When Should Anxiety Be Taken Seriously? Here are Some Tips

Tension, stress, worries. All these words might seem very ordinary more like they describe a part of your life. However, most of us might have never taken out time to think about them as it is a matter of fact that we are not aware of the circumstances. Anxiety- a word very commonly heard today, the 21st century. Of course modern people…modern problems but the way anxiety builds up on you if not taken care of can be harmful in many ways.

Anxiety is an emotion. When tension, stress, and worries come altogether Anxiety is what gives birth. Let’s take a look at the reasons that cause Anxiety, the symptoms that might show up, and ways to overcome this emotion.

What causes Anxiety?

Different factors play a role in building up Anxiety. They can be major or even minor stressful events in life e.g. Death of a loved one, losing a competition, or even works stress can build up with time and hit you at any time in life. Everyone has different emotional intensities so it also depends on how the person deals with specific situations, some might react more than the others! Persistent worrying, Genes, and your personality type are also variables that take part in causing anxiety. A specific stimulus e.g. a Phobia might be a reason as well.

Symptoms:

The symptoms might be very slight but in a few individuals, they can be threatening as well. At first one might not know about what’s going on but with time when the signs and symptoms become clearer e.g., it becomes difficult for them to control their emotions they certainly find about the minor disorder. Mentioned below are other few symptoms a person having an anxiety attack might show/feel:

1.     Panic Attack (can be a frightening experience for the person and people around them)

2.     Restlessness

3.     Sweating

4.     Feeling light-headed or dizzy

5.     The person might feel tired or annoyed

6.     Muscle pain

7.     Disturbed sleep

Symptoms that show an intense anxiety attack include Accelerated heartbeat, Nausea, shortness of breath, or choking or the person might start to have the fear of dying or losing control.

Example of Phobia related Anxiety:

A 39y/o female has the phobia of birds i.e. also known as ‘Agoraphobia’. Such a person might be irritated by the sound of flapping wings or feel sick e.g. increased heart rate even if they see photographs of birds so they avoid visiting places that could have more birds e.g. beaches or forests. For various phobias, different methods are used to overcome them but if you ever get to know about one of yours, definitely get checked by a Psychiatrist as soon as possible.

How to overcome Anxiety?

Desensitization is one way of reducing severe responses to little things. It is a method specifically used by psychiatrists. They make their patients practice multiple relaxation techniques e.g. different muscle exercises or they might prescribe anti-anxiety drugs. However, if you go through minute symptoms there are several ways you can help yourself out! Make a list of stressful things and relate them to how can they affect you. Next, take out time listing down solutions and implement the best one! Other than this, a healthy lifestyle has a major impact on your emotions so make sure what you eat and what you do throughout the day doesn’t affect your mental or physical health negatively. Morning walks, adapting to a specific hobby, doing yoga can also help you out immensely.

Knowing about the importance of your mental health is a very integral part of your life so make you take care of yourself and the people around you as well. Let go of your past and take time out to breathe. There’s a lot more coming your way so make sure you never think of giving up!
