The novel Ice-Candy Man by
Bapsi Sidhwa is about India's division and its consequences. This is the first
novel written by a Pakistani woman author on the fate of the people of Lahore.
The work begins with a passage from Iqbal's poetry "Complaint to
God," which introduces the child-narrator Lenny.

options for getting from Warris Road to Jail Road are limited. She is saddened
and lonely when she sees the Salvation Army wall with ventilation openings. The
story is told in the first person. On Warris Road, Lenny lives. Through the
Child-narrator, the writer portrays the areas of Lahore. Lenny observes:
"I feel such sadness for the dumb creature I imagine lurking behind the wall."
Lenny is introverted and she is engrossed in her private world.
